Mobility friendly adaptation, Northam
Following our successful quotation for a bathroom adaptation for Mrs S., experiencing severe mobility challenges and unable to use her bathroom facilities and was eligible to receive a Disabled Funding Grant (DFG) via Torridge Council. Working closely with her occupational therapist, we designed and installed an accessible shower room to help Mrs S. regain her independence and shower safely with confidence and pace of mind.
Job Description
Occupational therapist requirements to adapt a safe accessible showering facility, for the customer. Our expert Trustmark accredited team designed and installed a level access showering / wetroom area with half-height folding carer screens which provides for accessible wheelchair showering and changing needs.

Installation First Step – Strip Out and Removal
During the first step preparation is key to ensure we minimize disruption for the care and attention to the house hold’s needs as swiftly as allowed. In this case our first hurdle was on removing the current floor covering where our fitters promptly identified possible asbestos material in the original under floor tile membrane. Following correct procedure, our certificated asbestos awareness fitters sealed the exposed area to make safe until further tests were carried out.
Positive asbestos presence tests were identified and the procedure of removing the effected material was taken care of by our specialist asbestos contractors who then had arranged to seal up the room & remove the bitumen material in a safe/controlled procedure before we could continue with the main works. Asbestos removal/disposal has to be carried out by a licensed registered company before the space can be deemed to be risk free.
For the first time in many months Mrs S. has been able to have a shower safely. She finds it such a pleasure & tells us she is “over the moon to feel normal again”.
