What to do with your Daily Living Equipment Prescription?

Simple items, such as grab rails, walking frames and raised toilet seats, can play a significant role in helping to maintain your independence.  If you (or someone you care for) need help with everyday tasks, you may be eligible for a ‘living aid’ prescription. Living Needs provides solutions for independent living, including a choice of living aids and mobility assessment advice – always recommending the best equipment to suit your needs.

An NHS Daily Living Equipment Prescription will assist with limited mobility, medical conditions, dementia or disabilities. As an accredited and trusted prescription retailer, we can exchange equipment prescriptions for the mobility aids you have been prescribed.  The process is simple, quick and free. The prescription entitles you to a specific item funded by the NHS, for example a walker. You can then have that item free of charge or choose to go for a better item and pay the difference.

We keep most items in stock or we can order it very quickly, usually within a couple of days depending on when the item is requested. If you, or someone you know, have a need for equipment to assist with daily living, call into the showroom and we will exchange your prescription.  If you are not eligible for a prescription, or prefer to buy your own equipment, we provide onsite expert advice and assessments and a wide choice of mobility aids including raised toilet seats, grab rails, walkers, shower stools, mobility and sensory aids.

We cannot provide the prescriptions themselves but we can fulfill them and provide advice on how to obtain them or upgrade them. We always show you how to use the equipment you select and give any necessary instructions for setting up and adjusting the equipment at home. We can also provide a delivery and installation service.

To become an accredited NHS Equipment Prescription Supplier, we have been fully assessed by Devon County Council on training and accessibility – importantly the supplier must offer advice and help in selecting from a wide range of aids for use all around the home and when you are out and about.

The Living Needs Barnstaple showroom is on Mill Road, near Rolle Quay and is open Monday to Saturday (with free parking).
